Charges filed in Slough UTV accident

Prosecutor Denis Tracy filed five charges of vehicular assault on November 5, 2015 in Whitman County Superior Court against Canadian Alexander S. Haxby. The charges allege he was responsible for a utility vehicle (UTV) accident near Webb’s Slough last summer following the August 29 boat races. Haxby, 40, of Bowen Island, British Columbia, has been summoned to appear in Whitman County Superior Court on December 4. A Whitman County Sheriff’s report says Haxby and six passengers in the side-by- side UTV were traveling through a field in the early morning hours of August 30 when they went over a 10 to 12 foot cliff and crashed onto Rogers Road. The arrest report filed by Deputy Justin DeRosier says Haxby and passengers in the UTV were drinking prior to the crash. Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene at daybreak to find the victims in serious condition. Three of the injured people

were taken from the scene by two helicopters to Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. A fourth was taken to Sacred Heart by ambulance and a fifth alleged victim was transported to Whitman Hospital in Colfax. The report says one passenger suffered a broken hip, one other a serious head injury. None of the reported injuries were considered life -threatening.

Haxby was taken to Sacred Heart where he was treated and released. The arrest report said a warrant was issued to obtain Haxby’s treatment record at the hospital and results of a blood alcohol test conducted at approximately 8:15 that morning listed a reading of .086 percent. Victims listed in the five counts include Matt Leblond, Nicole Brown, Ken Buchan, Elizabeth Petring and Kristopher Sneve.
